Being a teenager in today’s world isn’t easy.

Does your teenager have mental health concerns impacting their academic or athletic performance? Therapy can help.

I was a teen not too long ago and know the challenges they experience all too well. Today, teens face a more complex, competitive world than ever before—and they know it. There is immense pressure to succeed in school, stand out among the competition, and find a career path… all while undergoing hormonal and social changes. Various issues can also arise from using social media apps like Snapchat, Instagram, and TikTok, including bullying, low self-esteem, and sleep problems. Navigating friendships, breakups, and the pressure to fit in can all affect your teens’ mental health.

It is common for even high-performing, thriving teens to experience periods of overwhelming anxiety, burnout, depression, or substance abuse. These and other behavioral health concerns can impact academic or sports performance, or cause arguments and conflicts with parents.

Want a therapist who “Gets it?”

Most teens I meet with asked their parents to make the appointment—they wanted to see a therapist. They recognize something is wrong and want to learn strategies to level up and improve their life. Some teens have uncertain feelings about therapy, which I see as an opportunity to make therapy a positive and useful experience.

Therapy generally helps most teens, but they sometimes have reservations about being ‘labeled as a problem’ or resist by saying ‘nothing is wrong with me.’ I never label or judge. People can be both doing great in many ways and still have room to improve. I take a collaborative, supportive problem-solving approach with teens and their parents. I make an extra effort to understand my teen’s perspectives, connect with them, and develop a strong therapeutic rapport. Teen clients have said they found me to be relatable, helpful, and easy to talk to.
